frequently asked questions

processing time & shipping

What are processing times for my order?

Items take typically 3-5 business days before shipment. Please note that 'processing time' refers to the amount of time it takes from when your order is placed to the actual shipment date. It is NOT the amount of time it will take for you to receive your order. If your item is a custom order or you requested a customization, processing time will be extended. Shipping time varies based on destination.

How long does shipping take?

We ship USPS First Class.
Domestic: 2-5 days
International: 6-14 days

Buyers are responsible for any customs and import taxes that may apply. After Oak is not responsible for delays due to processing in customs or items lost during shipment. If you do not receive your order, it is your responsibility to contact USPS. Tracking numbers are included with every order.

returns and exchanges

I gladly accept returns, exchanges, and cancellations. Custom orders and clearance items are final sale and cannot be returned/exchanged.

Contact me within: 14 days of delivery

Ship items back to me within: 21 days of delivery

Request a cancellation within: 2 days of purchase

Conditions of return/exchange

Buyers are responsible for return shipping costs. If the item is not returned in its original condition, the buyer is responsible for any loss in value. Refund will be given once item is returned to studio.

customization and sizing

Will I be receiving the exact item pictured? Can I choose my stone/shell/nutshell/etc?

Please allow for slight variations in size, shape, color, and texture, as each piece is as unique as its wearer. Due to the nature of production, you may not receive exact item pictured in listing. The photograph serves as an overall representation of the design. Please send me a message if you’d like to view exact inventory. I am more than happy to send you the exact piece of your choosing.

I have a special item that I would like made into a necklace. Can you do that?

Yes, I love custom orders! Please visit our custom requests page for more details!

necklace+lengths.jpg

Can I choose the length of my necklace or a different chain than the one shown in a particular listing?

Yes! I am happy to accommodate changes so that your jewelry is perfect for you! This can typically be done for no charge, unless there is a significant difference in material cost. This may add a day or two to processing times. Please refer to the chart for an approximation of where different lengths will fall.

My ring doesn’t fit. Can it be resized?

Unfortunately, no. Due to the unique production process (electroforming), stones and organic objects can be damaged in attempts to resize. I’m happy to exchange for the correct size as long as it is still in the time window for exchanges. Custom and clearance items are unfortunately excluded from exchanges.

I highly recommend that you have your finger sized by a professional jeweler or use a ring sizer to find your correct size before making a purchase.

You don’t have my ring size in stock. Can I still purchase it and just leave a note at checkout?

If you do not see your size in stock, please send me a message here before purchasing. I may not have it in my inventory and it could extend processing time by at least 2 weeks.

jewelry care & repairs

How will my copper jewelry change over time?

Each piece has been darkened slightly with patina, polished and left unsealed. Copper is an ever-changing metal, brightening with wear and darkening with time. The copper color can be left to evolve with the elements, or brought back to a shine with a polishing cloth. Each purchase is accompanied by a small cloth for your convenience.

How will copper affect my skin?

Copper jewelry is known to cause “greening” of skin. After prolonged contact with skin and interaction with air, sweat and chemicals, copper can turn teal and stain the skin in the process. This does not occur on all wearers, as it is a reaction dictated by individual body chemistry. This is not harmful to your health and can easily be removed using soap and water.

To avoid greening of fingers, you can regularly apply a coat of jeweler’s wax/lacquer or clear nail polish to the inside of the ring band.

What are best practices for taking care of my jewelry?

I recommend the following care tips:

  • Avoid getting wet- do not wear while showering, swimming, exercising, applying lotion, spraying perfumes etc.

  • Do not attempt to bend or twist jewelry

  • Store in dry, dark place

  • Restore shine with a jewelry polishing cloth

Oh no! My necklace broke! Can you repair it?

I am able to repair jewelry on a case-by-case basis, depending on the level of damage to the piece. If it is an issue with a connection or broken chain, it is likely an easy (and free!) fix. If there is damage to an electroformed charm, it may be a more complicated repair and there may be costs to repair. Customers are responsible for shipping costs to my studio and I cover shipment back. I am happy to discuss your repair, send me a message here.
